Born to Survive
Born to Survive by Allan Scott
From his very first trip as a boy in a de Havilland Fox Moth, Allan Scott knew what he wanted to do. With speed his passion, the world of the fighter squadron became his home when WWII provided the opportunity. In 1941, with his first squadron at Biggin Hill, Allan gained the vital experience needed for a fighter pilot in the blue skies over Kent and the Channel, preparing him well for his part in the crucial battle for Malta, for which he was awarded the DFM. Escort duty on heavy-bomber raids into Germany then followed. Allan's war came to a safe end, but a safe life was not for him. Going on to test-fly over eighty different aircraft types, he came close to several potential disasters and suffered one real one - yet he remained undaunted. His story is one of determination, courage and an acute awareness of the good fortune that accompanied him.
